The elephant is aged about 32 years. It has been shot point blank. The carcass was noticed by the forest staff who were on the rounds. Forest officials suspected the hand of poachers behind the killing of the tusker.
Veterinarian Dr Srinivas who conducted post mortem opined that the elephant had died two to three days ago. Police Inspector S I Gangadharmurthy visited the spot and has registered a case.
The carcass was cremated after the tusks were removed. Conservator of Forests B P Ravi, DFO Yatishkumar, ACF Keshav and RFO Acchappa visited the spot.
