<p>Principal scientific advisor to Government of India R Chidambaram will deliver the keynote address at the second convocation of JSS University on July 28 at 3.30 pm at Rajendra auditorium, JSS Medical college.<br /><br />Addressing mediapersons here on Tuesday, JSS University vice-chancellor Dr B Suresh said the three-year-old university had made lot of developments and there were many firsts to its credit. <br /><br />The three main objectives of the university was to achieve academic, research and professional excellence. <br /><br />The Pharm D graduates who will be coming out of the university will be the first batch in the entire country. <br /><br />Courses approved<br /><br />The pharmacy council has approved the course even before the students have graduated, he said and added that it was true for a few other courses where the Medical Council of India has recognised the JSS university even before the first graduates in MD, MS and a few other courses have passed out. <br /><br />Collaborations<br /><br />The university has collaborated with several national and international institutes and organisations and signed MoUs with the vision and strategy of enhancing knowledge development and research leading to innovations. <br /><br />They include Khon Kaen University, Thailand, Latrobe University, Autstralia, Philips Electronic India and Gujarat Forensic Sciences University which is the only one of its kind in the country, he said.<br /><br />Vision 2020<br /><br />On vision 2020, Dr Suresh said , the strategic plan of the university envisages to have an enrolment of 100,000 students, be a multicampus university, have sustainable practises throughout the organisation and be listed amongst the top universities in the world. <br />With this aim there are already 75 students registered for research leading to the award of the Ph D.<br /><br />Regarding the deemed university status, he said the university was in the B category and it aimed to reach the A category soon by striking a right balance with independence and responsibility.<br /><br />Gold medalists<br /><br />In all 12 gold medals will be presented at the convocation will be awarded degree students from various branches like diploma in clinical pathology, industrial pharmacy, pharmaceutics, pharmacology, pharmacogosy, B Pharma and Pharma D to name a few. <br /><br />Also 180 graduates will be awarded degrees during the convocation, he said.<br />Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra, chancellor will preside and pro-chancellor B N Betkerur will be present on the occasion. <br /><br />JSS Medical College principal Prof Basavangowdappa, director academic Dr Kushalappa, Dental College principal Dr Nanda Lal and JSS Pharmacy College principal Dr B Shivakumar were also present at the press meet.</p>
