A fight against corruption

Last Updated 24 May 2013, 13:16 IST

Kannada actress Malashree is courage personified on screen. The proof is there for all to see in her just released ‘Election’. In this film, the star plays the role of a tough election commissioner.

Although the movie has been released much after the elections, Malashree has essayed a pivotal role that is sure to get her viewers thinking about the government, politicians and the tall promises they make. In the film, her character takes no nonsense but stands by what is just and fair.

“Although the movie was delayed during censoring and was released rather late, it must be watched by everybody. There’s a very strong message in it that corruption will not be tolerated; that the ordinary people have the power to change the course of politics. This has been asserted quite a few times in the movie,” Malashree tells
Metrolife after she watched the movie ahead of its release on Friday.

She confesses that she is truly delighted with her performance. “After shooting a couple of scenes, I got very involved with the character and the role. The involvement and my eagerness to see a change is evident in the movie and in my character too. A lot of the changes that I want to see around me have been incorporated in the movie,” she states.

Malashree feels the movie exposes a lot of things that go on in the political circuit. “Politicians don’t care about people’s problems and don’t make an effort to fulfill their responsibilities to the people and to the State. This point has been brought out well in the film. It’s an ordinary subject with a commercial twist,” she explains.

Malashree points out that a lot of people will relate to the film. There are a couple of fight scenes as well. “There were times when I felt like a real election commissioner. I must say doing this role is much better than doing an item song. That’s the kind of rush I felt while I was shooting for the movie,” she signs off.
