“Ours was a love marriage. My husband has rejected me within one year of marriage. I have filed a case in this connection with the Halasur Gate women police station in Bangalore and have approached the Home Minister as well as the Police Commissioner, but it has been of no use. I beg at least media people will help me now,” she said.
Srilatha said she was deceived by her husband Bharath Shetty who is a driver in the KSRTC Mangalore division (badge number 6186/2534).

She said she is presently an eight-and-a half-month pregnant and both her husband and his parents, who have rejected her, are demanding Rs 5 lakh from her.

“I was in a job in Bangalore after my graduation. I developed friendship with Bharath, a bus driver, while travelling from Mangalore to Bangalore. It gradually turned to love. We got married on March 20 this year at a temple in Kundapur. Since I was pregnant before marriage, my parents too rejected me. Myself and Bharath were staying at a rented houses in Shiroor. After a few days, he stopped coming home,” Srilatha explained.

“In the meantime, Bharath pressed me to convert myself into Jainism, since he was a Jain. He also pressed me for abortion since one should not be carrying while getting converted. He also threatened to end the relationship if I did not fetch Rs 5 lakh for him,” she said. “Despite all developments, I begged him to come home, but he is not willing. Now he is arguing that we never got married. He has even taken away the marriage album. I’m deceived,” she rues.

Presently Srilatha stays in Spoorthidhama at Thekkatte in Kundapur. Spoorthidhama President Keshav Koteshwar, Hemmadi Manasa Yuvathi Mandala member Savithri Balegarthi and advisor Annapoorna were present.
