<p>Akin to the airport, baggage of passengers will now be carried on metal luggage trolleys. However, the trolleys will be handled by licensed porters.<br /><br />Launching the trolleys, South-Western Railways, Division Railway Manager S Mani assured porters that despite the instruction on the trolleys, which reads ‘For passengers use only’, the signage board on the ramp next to it indicates that the trolleys can be used only by licensed porters.<br /><br />“The trolleys will be the property of licensed porters. We have introduced similar trolleys in the City (30) and Cantonment (25) stations too. The passengers will be charged same tariff but the burden of porters will be reduced. Moreover, it provides a feel good factor to the passengers,” Mani said. </p>.<p><br />Apart from trolleys, battery-operated cart sponsored by ACC Ltd, VIP waiting lounge and room of chief ticket inspector were also inaugurated. <br /><br />The cart will aid senior citizens and physically challenged. Passengers who require cart services at the Yeshwanthpur railway station can call the helpline number: 9902545012.<br /><br />New entrance<br />Passengers who used to earlier dread to board trains at the Yeshwanthpur railway station from the market side will now be able to heave some relief by the year end.<br />The South Western Railways has proposed to shift the entrance from its present location to the station near the fish market, while the exit will be located closer to the current entrance to the station, said South Western Railways (Divisional Railway Manager) S Mani. The present entrance to the Yeshwanthpur railway station has emerged as a bottleneck.<br /><br />As a result the ticketing area now will be made as a concourse bay. The new entrance near the fish market will allow people to park their vehicles first and then enter the concourse bay, said Mani.<br /><br />Deluxe toilets<br />The South Western Railways has also invited tenders to build deluxe toilets near the foot-over-bridge on platform 6. A food plaza and an emergency medical centre is also planned.<br /><br />Third terminal<br />For quite some time the need for a third terminal station has been felt. As the other two terminals have reached saturation point. Moreover, every new train could be introduced only at Yeshwanthpur. <br /><br />Hence, the South-Western Railways scaled down its previous proposal and is seeking the Railway Board to allow it to start at least four trains from there.<br /><br />“The announcement will be made in the next budget. The addition of new trains will cost anywhere between Rs 15 to Rs 20 crore,” said Mani.<br /><br />Efforts are also underway to develop the Byapanahalli station. As of now we are planning to stop one or two express trains in the morning and evening hours there, added Mani.<br /></p>
