It is mandatory for the contractor to issue parking slips bearing the seal and serial number of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA). However, contractor R Sudhakar had violated this rule. On Monday, the BDA officers who came to know about the malpractice, took the contractor to task.

“Serial numbers on the slips are necessary to know the revenue generated from the parking lot,” said a BDA engineer.

It is learnt that even in the past the contractor had indulged in foul play by charging more than double the amount fixed by the BDA. Sudhakar had then charged Rs five and Rs 10 for the parking of two-wheeler and four-wheeler respectively, for two hours though the BDA had permitted him to collect Rs two and Rs five respectively. Based on the complaints, the BDA had served a showcause notice asking Sudhakar why his contract should not be scrapped for indulging in malpractice. The BDA officers showed leniency after he apologised and promised not to repeat the mistake.

There was apprehension among the residents that the contractor had again resorted to old tactics when he started charging more for parking. However, this time BDA engineers had confirmed that they had revised the rates according to which the parking charges would be Rs five for two wheelers and Rs 10 for three-wheelers and four-wheelers for two hours. A chart will be put up in all the BDA complexes showing the parking rates, so that people are not cheated, said BDA Commissioner Bharatlal Meena.
