The assurance was given to a delegation of leaders from the H-K region led by former chief minister and Bidar Member of Parliament Dharam Singh and Union Labour and Employment Minister Mallikarjun Kharge when it called on the Home Minister in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Speaking to Deccan Herald over the phone from Delhi, Dharam Singh said Chidambaram had given a categorical assurance to the delegation from the State. He said he was hopeful of the long-pending demand of the people of the region materialising shortly.

Replying to a question, Dharam Singh said Chidambaram had promised to amend Article 371 of the Constitution for ensuring educational, employment opportunities for the youth and also for the speedy development of the region.

“This is for the first time that the Union minister has responded positively. He has promised to spell out the stand of the government during the session,” Singh said.
