Racket busted, nine arrested

Janawadi Womens Association plays an important role in nabbing the criminals

The accused used to trap innocent women into prostitution, in the pretext of promising jobs to them.
 
The accused are - Manjunath from Gandhinagar in Kolar City, Sadiq Ahmad, Babajan and Tuluvinuru Rajesh of Palya village in Chintamani taluk, Shankar, belonging to Vemagal, Ekamballi Rajesh and Thammanna of Kolar taluk, Sunitha, a resident of Vikota in Andhra Pradesh and Ratna, from Ambedkar Nagar in Kolar City.

According to the police, member of Janawadi Women’s Association Susheela met one of the accused, Sunitha, at a programme. There, the accused offered Susheela to contact her, if the latter was interested in ‘side business’ (prostitution). Susheela brought the matter, immediately to the notice of the leader of Janawadi Women’s Association V Geetha.

Planned action

The police were also informed about the incident. Together, along with the help of the association members, they drew a plan to nab the culprits. On Tuesday evening, a meeting was organised with Sunitha, near SNR Hospital in the City. When Sunitha arrived at the said place, she was immediately arrested by the police and her cell phone was recovered.

The police attended to all the calls received on her cell phone. They directed the youths to come at different spots in the City and were nabbed. The task of nabbing the culprits, which began from Tuesday evening, continued till Wednesday evening.

Totally nine members were arrested and are kept in judicial custody. Circle Inspector Renuka Prasad has informed that further investigation is on, into the matter.
It is suspected that some of the elected representatives and industrialists are also involved in the crime. Infact, it is reported that the police have received calls from influential persons to let go the culprits.

The members of the Janawadi Women’s Association opine that further investigation might reveal a huge racket involved in the crime.
