A bench comprising Justices Dalveer Bhandari and Mukundakam Sarma directed the Karnataka government, Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, Karnataka Board of Wakfs, Anjuman-e-Islam and others to sit together to find a solution to the dispute over a piece of land in Hubli which is a bone of contention between Muslims and Hindus.
The apex court also refused to concede to the demands of Anjuman-e-Islam, Hubli, to grant it permission to build and run a school at the disputed site.
Fixing October 6 as the next date of hearing, the bench said if the issue was not settled, the court would take a decision on merit.
