Last Updated 11 August 2011, 19:03 IST

In a letter dated August 5, 2011, she asked the university to take immediate action and all necessary steps to ensure completion of the administrative block of the PG centre.

Accordingly, BU Registrar (Administration) R M Ranganath stated, an order would be issued to take up the work immediately.

Irregularities alleged

The PG centre project had run into trouble when a few members of the Syndicate, BU’s highest decision-making body, alleged irregularities in allotting the work to the original contractor without taking the necessary approval.

They also charged the university authorities with issuing the work orders at an inflated rate. Following a representation by them, V S Acharya, Minister for Higher Education, wrote a letter to Rao, directing her to instruct the university to stop the work immediately.

Accordingly, the BU Syndicate stopped the work.

The Minister also directed the Principal Secretary to take steps to suspend the Registrar (Administration) for issuing the work order.

Rao’s latest letter allowing for completion of the unfinished work has come as a huge relief to the university.
