At a time when the government schools are being closed down due to shortage of students, here is a school which has highest number students, however lack basic facility of a building.
The school is Bavikere Government Higher Primary School.

The school has a play ground, good environment and teachers to impart education to the students. However, it lacks a school building. The existing building is in deplorable condition as roof might collapse at any time. Students from Duglapura, Lakkavalli, Rangenahalli, Mudagodu are pursuing their education. The village has two private schools. Inspite of it, the admission to this government school has crossed 280 this year.

The 12 teachers have pooled resources to set up a library in the school. Inspite of the school lacking a computer teacher, computer classes are offered to the kids.

The school came into existence in 1929. A building with six classrooms was constructed in 1965. With the support of the villagers, few more buildings were added to the school over the years. However, all the six buildings which were constructed in 1965 are in deplorable condition with wooden roof being eaten away by the white ants. The roofs might collapse at any time. Though Sarva Shikshana Abhiyan started in 2001, no new classrooms were sanctioned to this school. During the academic year, the department has sanctioned one head teachers’ room. No work has been undertaken under Sarva Shikshana Abhiyan so far.

Though the school has three acre playground, the students can not utilise the playground. There is a temple in the school premises. There is a need to fence the school playground, says villagers.

With the elected representatives holding ‘Shalegagi navu neevu’ (school nurturing programme) at Bavikere school, the teachers are hoping that the school might get a new building soon.
