Very few hotels in the City actually reproduce the real taste and Shri Guru Kottureshwara Davanagere Benne Dose and Rotti Oota Khanavali in Chamarajpet fits the bill. Head straight here for original North Karnataka cuisine because here nothing is amiss.

The eatery is best known for its crispy benne dosa. The owner Mahadev hails from a tiny village Kottur in Bellary district and this religious man thought of naming his hotel after the village deity. “Ten years ago I opened a ‘benne dosa corner’ at Netkallappa Circle, N R Colony which is very popular and always crowded. Inspired by the success, I started this hotel in Chamarajpet. Now, even this place has become popular among those who live in and around the place,” says Mahadev, the owner of the eatery. The place opens at 7.30 in the morning and closes at 9 at night and on Sunday, it is open for half day. A variety of dosas like benne dosa, khali dosa, open dosa and paddu are available throughout the day and jolada rotti oota is served for lunch and dinner. Snacks like mirchi, girmit, nargis mandakki and alsandi vada are available in the evening.

Jolada rotti oota comprises two rotis, two varieties of curries, chutney powder, rice, papad, sambar, rasam, majjige menasu (chilli dipped in spicy buttermilk) and pickle. And what’s more attractive is that this sumptuous spread is available for Rs 30. “People of North Karnataka like the food and say that it’s same as what’s cooked back home. Most people tend to return with their families and friends,” says Mahadev.

Pure Nandini butter is used for cooking and some of the ingredients and sometimes even the chillis are sourced from North Karnataka.

People pour in for lunch and you would have to elbow your way around in the afternoon and evening. Manjunath, a customer, who has been a regular here along with his colleagues, agrees that the food tastes great.

“We frequent this place for the evening snacks. I like girmit, a masala mandakki which is served with two hot mirchis. The price is reasonable and the taste is awesome,” he says. The eatery is located on 1st Cross, 5th Main, B K Mariyappa Road, Chamarajpet. The place also undertakes outdoor catering. For details, call 9448305384.
