Garlands worth Rs15 lakh await artistes in Udupi

It is celebrated as Naada Habba all over the city and the temple town is gearing up for the celebrations on Sunday.  There was brisk sale of flowers and fruits at Car Street on Saturday.

Normally, the devotees prepare ‘Kotte Kadubu’ for Krishnashtami. The women were seen selling ‘Kottee’ on the Car Street. The public were seen purchasing ‘petla’ which is used during Vitla Pindi.

“Mosaru Kudike” habba is also celebrated on day of Vitla Pindi, where the clay pot comprising saffron water suspended at a height are broken by wooden poles by folks dressed as shepherds.

The Shiroor mutt is decked with flowers and lights for the celebrations. Hari Bhajan programme will be held at 8.30 am on Sunday followed by various competitions for the public.

There will be dance competition on ‘Shri Krishna bala leele’ at 9 am to 11.30 am at Rajangann. The ragoli competition will be held for the public along with ‘Muddu Krishna’ and ‘Muddu Radha Krishna’ competitions.

Vitla Pindi

The Paryaya Shiroor Mutt is ready for Krishna Ashtami celebrations in Udupi.
The mutt  has prepared 1.5 lakh chakkulis and laddus to be distributed among the devotees during Vitla Pindi scheduled to be held on Monday.

As many as 50 varieties of laddus were prepared by 15 cooks. The Shiroor mutt has already started organising various competitions for the school kids.

The Paryaya mutt has been garlanding the hulivesha participants with the notes. Accordingly, the seer has prepared garland of Rs 50 and Rs 100 currency notes worth Rs 15 lakh.

The police have beefed up security in and around Car Street for the Vitla Pindi. Special police force have been deployed for the security purpose. A total of 250 police personnel will be deployed for the security purpose on the day of Vitla pindi, said sources in police department.
