'Following the ideals of Devaraj Urs is need of hour'

Speaking at a programme organised to celebrate the 96th birth anniversary of D Devaraj Urs in Chikkaballapur on Saturday he said the oppressed should lap up numerous opportunities that are open for them in various fields.

To give fillip for education among the dalits and the downtrodden, more hostels and residential schools need to be constructed for students hailing from SC/ST and backward classes communities, he added.

Similarly, more bore wells need to be drilled under the Ganga Kalyan Scheme in lanes belonging to the SC/ST. The State governm ent should accord more facilities to SHGs thereby facilitating economic empowerment among the womenfolk.

Also speaking on the occasion Bagepalli legislator N Sampangi said the late Devaraj Urs played a foremost role in providing political representation to the backward classes. The present political leaders need to trod his path.

Educationist Prof Kodirangappa released an information brochure of Backward Classes Development Corporation on the occasion.

Urs Bhavan incomplete
“ Urs Bhavan can be completed only when people’s representatives contribute funds,” said Kolar CMC president Naziya.

The CMC has allocated a site next to the Department of Fisheries for the construction of Urs Bhavan. However, owing to paucity of funds the Bhavan has not been completed, she said.
