ZP CEO urges farmers to opt for mixed farming

If farmers grow only one crop, there is a higher chance of failure. Apart from traditional crops, ryots should grow coconuts, plantains and also horticultural crops.

He was speaking at the inauguration of World Coconut Day celebrations organised jointly by Coconut Development Board (CDB) and District Industries Centre in Mandya recently.

Coconuts are an integral part of agriculture and coconut oil is used for cooking in coastal areas. There is a huge demand for the by products of coconuts and more importance can be given to its growth, he added.

He urged farmers to make use of several schemes being provided by the agriculture department and CDB.

A demonstration of an equipment to extract tender coconut water was held by Energy Food Industries.

CADA chairman D Ramalingaiah, V C Farm zonal agricultural research centre dean Dr V  T Sannaveerappa, district industries centre joint director M Sugnanamurthy, CDB deputy director Vijayakumar Hallikeri, horticulture department deputy director Narendrababu, assistant director Shantha and others were present.
