Boy drowns in pit at Palike site

Sandeep (12), a resident of Kurubarahalli drowned in a pit dug out by a BBMP contractor.

The victim’s father Krishnamurthy is a tailor in Chitradurga, while his mother Sharada is a garment factory worker in Bangalore.

Sandeep was a Class VI student at Ravi English Medium School and was staying with his mother, police said.

BBMP had taken up the construction of an auditorium near Kempe Gowda Nagar park in Kurubarahalli. The construction work was halted two months ago as the contractor was waiting for the revised expenditure estimate.

Police said there is an eight- foot deep pit in the construction site which is very close to a BBMP ground. A few boys, including Sandeep, went to the ground to play cricket around 4 pm. The ball fell into the pit and Sandeep went in search of the ball. The ball had fallen near a boulder close to the pit. Sandeep moved the stone a bit, laid his hand on the ball to retrieve it. However, he lost balance and fell into the pit, police said. The other boys alerted a local resident, who in turn alerted the police and the fire force. The body was taken to Victoria Hospital for a post mortem.

Held for murder attempt

Central Crime Branch police arrested two persons for allegedly attempting to kill a car driver recently.

The suspects are Deepak Kishore Ankola from J P Nagar 7th phase and Mohammad Maslin Pasha of BTM Layout second stage.

Police said the suspects took a prostitute with them to Hubli on July 31. Masquerading as a family, they hired a car from a travel agency and went to Murudeshwar.

On their return journey, they directed the driver to stop the car near a secluded place near Sagar. They attacked the driver with an iron rod, pushed him down and drove away the car. They changed the name plate and came to Bangalore and planned to sell the vehicle.

Chain snatcher held

Alert public caught a person, who was attempting to flee after robbing a homemaker of her gold chain. He was handed over to the Mahadevapura police on Saturday night. The suspect Gopinath (22) is from Kundalahalli Colony.

Police said B S Nethravathi, a resident of Lakshminarayan Layout, Marathalli, her husband Tejas and brother Chandrashekhar were returning from a clinic when the incident took place. Nethravathi was riding pillion on Chandrashekhar’s bike, while Tejas was following them on another bike.

Gopinath snatched Nethravathi’s gold chain worth Rs 90,000 and started running. Nethravathi cried for help. Tejas and a few others chased and caught him, added the police.

2 die in accidents

Two persons were killed while another injured in separate accidents in the City since Saturday night.

A car driver was killed on the spot, while the driver of another car was critically injured when their vehicles collided in Adugodi traffic police limits late Saturday night. The dead is Gurunath (26), while the injured, Prakash, is being treated at a private hospital.

Police said Gurunath lost control over his car and rammed against the median on 100 feet road, Outer Ring Road, near Dell office and collided with Prakash’s car injuring him critically. Two others in the car escaped unhurt.

In another accident in Peenya traffic police limits, Roopa (27), a resident of T Dasarahalli was killed on the spot when a BMTC bus rammed into her two-wheeler near Peenya police station junction around 8.15 am on Sunday.

Roopa was a private company employee. The police arrested the driver and seized the bus.
