Teachers shape students' future, says V S Acharya

Speaking on the occasion, Higher Education Minister Dr V S Acharya opined that teachers play major role in shaping the future of students. Teachers stand as the testimony for ethical ideologies and the day marked thanksgiving ceremony to the valuable service rendered by teachers. He said Karnataka state stands in the forefront across the country when it comes to quality education.

As many as 130 lakh students study in 1st to 10th standard in the State. About 25 lakh students are studying in PUC, diploma and other courses. There are as many as 10 lakh students studying in degree colleges and Universities and other technical courses. The government is stressing on quality education and thereby supporting the idea of availability of abundant human resources, he added.

Acharya said there are many problems encountered by teaching fraternity, however, the idea of quality education has not been affected owing to the problems. The government has taken serious initiatives in the direction towards solving the problems of the teachers.

The job security offered to Job Oriented Course teachers is one such example testifying government’s concern for teachers. As many as 688 teachers of Morarji Schools have been assured with job security, he added.He said as many as 82 government degree colleges were opened by the state government, besides as many as 357 first grade PU Colleges. As many as 11 engineering colleges have been set up in the State. About 12,084 crore have been invested for education, he added.

Teachers who were facilitated under English medium category include P Susheela (Government Pre University College, Brahmavara), Venkatramana Upadhyaya G and Adve Ravindra Poojary (Government High School Olakadu), Poornima (St. Mary Kannarpadi), Shobha P, Mridula, Manjunath A V, Savitha, Vinoda Shetty, Nagaratna and Roopashri (T A Pai English Medium High School, Kunjibettu), Vijayalaxmi C Shetty (S M S English Medium High School, Brahmavara) and Jayanthi K and Ashalatha (Sri Venkatramana High School, Kundapura).

The teachers who were honored under Kannada medium category include Surendra Shetty (Brahmi Durgaparameshwari High school Kamasheele), Srihari Sharma P V and Sharmila (Poorna Prajna Pre University College, Admaru), Subraya Mayya, Sharmila, Subraya Hande, Sandhya Bhat and Deesha D Rao (Seva Sangham High School, Thekatte), Aruna Kumari (Sri Mookambika Temple High School, Kodladi).
