Hence, it is the responsibility of the teachers to generate quality students who become responsible citizens of this nation, opined Kuvempu University Retired Professor Dr Srikanth Koodige.

He was speaking at the Teachers’ Day celebration jointly organised by Zilla Panchayat, Taluk Panchayat and Public Instructions Department at Vokkaligara Bhavana in the city on Monday. Elucidating the responsibility of teachers, he said the teachers should believe in individual morality and the social good. Teachers should have the knowledge of current issues. If teachers miss the path, then it would harm the society, he said.

“Teachers’ Day celebration must not be limited to the teachers, but all community members should take part in the celebration. Everyone has gained at least some profit from the teachers and for the sake of showing gratitude, all should be a part of the celebration,” he insisted.

He also called the teachers fraternity to support students who lag behind in studies. The students would perform better with the constant support from the teachers, he said.

Inaugurating the programme, MLA C T Ravi asked the teachers to introspect their work. “If the intension of education is to provide employment and ensure economic independence, it would spoil the social system. The objective of education should be uplifting of the society.”

As many as 34 primary and 13 retired high school teachers were felicitated on the occasion. Earlier, a procession was taken out where the portrait of former President Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan was carried with honour.
