2-year-old abducted to rob mother of her gold

Manjula, a resident of Yelahanka and wife of Anand Murthy, owner of a taxi, said in her complaint that she had come with her two-year-old daughter and elder sister Kavita to Hegadenagar on a two-wheeler.

While returning home around 5 pm, she had to slow down the vehicle due to the bad  stretch of road at Dugga­ppa Layout.

A man sitting in a vehicle parked on the roadside diverted Manjula’s attention to something fallen on the road. When Manjula went to check, she saw him speaking with the baby.

The man with his associates abducted the girl and demanded Manjula to hand over her jewellery, Ravikantegouda, DCP (North East) told Deccan Herald. She said the suspects were aged between 25 and 30, and spoke in Hindi and Urdu.

However, the police, not convinced by Manjula’s allegations, have continued the investigation, he added.

Couple end lives

A couple allegedly set themselves on fire at their residence in Pattegarapalya on Monday.
Mete Gowda, 50, a plumber and his wife Hulluramma, 48, were from Naganahalli in Kunigal, Tumkur district.

They had two daughters, Varalakshmi and Kalavathi, and a son.
Varalakshmi, who had come to visit her parents, noticed the smoke billowing out of the house and alerted the neighbours.

When they broke open the door, they found the couple dead, it is said.

Car driver murdered

A car driver working for a call centre has been allegedly murdered in Banashankari.
Anand, 21, a resident of Marathalli, had left home on August 8, for work. When he did not return, his sister filed a missing complaint.

On investigation, the police found him dead at Kyathasandra near Tumkur. Anand was strangled.

They suspect the involvement of his colleagues, Jayaram and two others in the crime, and have taken them into custody for interrogation. Rivalry was probably the motive, the police said.
