Karunanidhi brushes aside AIADMK charge on land encroachment

Last Updated 06 September 2011, 12:02 IST

"While I myself have doanted my house to a charitable trust (to be used as hospital), the ruling AIADMK has alleged that I have encroached upon the land," he said writing in the party mouthpiece 'Murasoli.'

He said the land in question is being used by police on security duty at his house to take rest during break.

Karunanidhi's rejoinder came a day after local administration minister K P Munusamy alleged in the assembly that the DMK chief  had encroached on some land behind his Gopalpuram residence.

Seeking to turn the tables on archrival AIADMK, Karunanidhi said its ally CPI(M) had some years back complained of encroachment of land at Siruthavur, allegedly by persons closely associated with Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

He also asked what explanation they had to give on the Kodanad estate issue, also involving their party chief Jayalalithaa.

On the allegations of encroachment by Anna Arivalayam, his party headquarters, he said the Chennai Corporation and Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) had closed the chapter regarding a show-cause notice issued by the then AIADMK government in 2004.
