If the swapping of cards between APL and BPL families have become a common thing in the taluk, the authorities have showed little interest to correct the mistake. For instance, a government employee has been given a BPL card. It is more than a year since the family sought transfer from BPL to APL, their request application is yet to be attended by the department of food and civil supplies.

“I visited the office several times, but the officials offer several excuses to change the card from BPL to APL. It is not a single case. There are numerous such cases in the taluk,” the government official says.

In contrary, many poor families have got APL cards in the taluk, a story not different from the rest of the state. While, tribals continue to be neglected. Out of 26 families in Manemoole hamlet in D B Kuppe only 15 families have got ration cards. Interestingly, a tribal family has also got a APL card — in a village where a two-year-old child died because of malnutrition recently!
