The disputed structure coming up at the site meant for public use was the reason for heated arguments at the meeting as it is being constructed without bringing it to the notice of the city municipal council.

Councillors Suresh Kumar, Yashwanth, Prasanna and others who raised the issue at the meeting questioned which department was constructing the building. Moreover, they even questioned the authenticity of the person who gave permission for the department for construction at the site belonging to CMC.

CMC president C R Shankar, who replied to questions, said the issue has not been brought to his notice and he was not aware which department was responsible for the illegal construction. He would reply after collecting necessary information as the officials present at the meeting too were unaware of the developments.

The councillors demanded demolition of the structure and a decision was taken in this regard. If the councillors want demolition the building would be demolished immediately, assured Shankar.

CMC former president K T Prakash opined the decision to demolish the building should be taken unanimously and should not blame the officials later. Finally, it was decided to demolish the building.

Objection against Nirmithi Kendra

Members of the City Municipal Council (CMC) raised objections to projects being handed over to Nirmithi Kendra even though it was decided during the last meeting that works wouldn’t be given to them henceforth.

Raising the issue, JD(S) member Suresh Kumar said at the last meeting, it was discussed that the quality of work undertaken by Nirmithi Kendra wasn’t satisfactory.

However, recently CMC has gone ahead and given a project worth ` 55 lakh. But the Nirmithi Kendra has returned Rs 40 lakh saying it wouldn’t take up the work.

“Despite the kendra saying that it won’t take up work, why was ` 15 lakh granted to them?” questioned Suresh.
