Last Updated 08 September 2011, 17:37 IST

Labour Minister Badshah Singh has been charged with grabbing government land at his native Kharela in Mahoba district of the state and constructing a college on the same in blatant violation of the rules and regulations. Singh is now in the Lokayukta net and has been served with a notice seeking his reply within a fortnight.

The minister has also allegedly got a house constructed on the gram sabha and nagar panchayat land. Some shops have also come up on the land, sources claimed. A complaint has been received against the minister in this regard seeking an inquiry into the allegations, sources added.

“The charges against the minister prima facia have been found to be correct. A thorough investigation is being conducted and the report of the inquiry will be sent to the chief minister for necessary action,” said UP Lokayukta Justice (retd) N K Mehrotra.

Singh is the third minister in the Mayawati cabinet who has been accused of grabbing government land. Earlier former minister for religious affairs Rajesh Tripathi had also allegedly grabbed government land in Gorakhpur district and turned it into a crematorium.

Tripathi had also started levying charges on those cremating bodies there. Interestingly Tripathi had also constructed a marriage hall near the crematorium.
