Bihar MLAs in DK to study Panchayat Raj

The team is out from September 2 studying the Panchayat Raj structure of some of the states like Karnataka, Kerala and Goa, where Panchayat Raj bodies have performed exceptionally well. The team which visited Bangalore and Mysore reached Mangalore on Thursday and will proceed to Tiruvananthapuram in Kerala on Friday.

Briefing the team about the success stories of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, ZP CEO Dr K N Vijayprakash spoke about the huge impact brought about in the region by the Total Sanitation Campaign. The members were overwhelmed to know that all the 203 Gram Panchayats of the district have won the Nirmal Gram Puraskar.

Vijayprakash also spoke about implementation of MGNREGS, methods of water, electricity
bill collection in place in Gram Panchayats, water supply system, Panchatanthra, the e-governance system, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan etc along with slideshows on the tourist destinations of the district and tourism potential. The delegation appreciated the fact that Dakshina Kannada with 89 per cent literacy rate stands first in the State.

Yadav, addressing the gathering said that they will make an analysis of the data collected during their visit and submit a report to the State government, based on which necessary changes will be made in their state.

“The water, electricity bill collection system, water supply, appointment of PDOs and Panchayat Secretaries are some of the points we thought were noteworthy,” he said.
MLAs Ramsurath Raai, Motilal Prasad, Bhumendra Narayan Singh, Afaq Alam, Manju Verma, Vijay Kumar Sinha, Anirudh Kumar among others were present.
