Sangha has lost land in City

Last Updated 10 August 2009, 17:42 IST

Reacting to a report in these columns on Sunday on the Supreme Court judgement of August 7, B P Mahendra and Prema Venkatesh Hegde claimed that the Sangha had lost six and half acres of land due to the “misconduct of Appaji Gowda and President Kenchappa Gowda.”

The two respondents said the petitioner or Sangha did not get any relief from the Supreme Court judgement. The two respondents cited the “operative” part of the judgement to drive home their point.

The “operative” part of the judgement delivered by Justices S B Sinha and Deepak Varma said:  “However, in our opinion, it is not necessary to go in to the aforementioned question as the suit filed by respondent 1 (Vokkaligara Sangha) has been dismissed for non-payment of court fee. No decree has thus been drawn up incorporating the terms of settlement entered into  by and between respondent No 1 on the one hand and respondent No 2 to 4 ( B P Mahendra and others) on the other.”
