Nalini meets husband at prison

The meeting, lasting 20 minutes, is the first between the couple after Murugan’s clemency petition was rejected by the President last month.

Nalini was shifted to the high security Vellore prison on Wednesday from the Puzhal Jail in Chennai. The Tamil Nadu Assembly on August 30 passed a “unanimous” resolution requesting the President to reconsider and commute the death sentence awarded to the three convicts— Murugan, Santhan and Perarivalan— all lodged in the Vellore jail. The Madras High Court, too, the same day stayed the execution of the convicts,  which was earlier scheduled for September 9,  for eight weeks.

Nalini was also awarded death sentence in the former prime minister’s assassination case but it was commuted to life.
