For the last three years the road construction work on Jasma Bhavan Road was going on at a snail’s pace, but not anymore.

After a visit of Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda was scheduled to the area, work on the road began on a war footing.

The Jasma Bhavan is all decked up for its grand reopening on September 18.

Being the community hall of powerful Bhovi community, which has a big say in the government as well as in the city corporation, the chief minister readily agreed to inaugurate the building. The only glitch for the community was the battered road, which could not get completed even after three years.

As the area became orphan after the BJP corporator Katta Jagadish went behind the bars, former deputy mayor S Dayanand and five other corporators swung into action to take up the work in view of the Gowda’s visit.

In the past three days the road laying work gained momentum like never before with people working day and night to meet the deadline of September 18.

As the BBMP officers fear coming in the line of fire, they are leaving no stone unturned to ready a hump-free decent road.

The road remained neglected ever since the BWSSB took up the pipe-laying work three years ago.

In a lethargic manner the work went on for more than two years and further one year went on for road laying work, but the work remained unfinished.

Former deputy mayor and the Benniganahalli ward corporator S Dayanand has camped there to personally monitor the work.

He said, “It’s true that the work was going on at snail’s pace. The work picked up pace only after we cracked the whip. If the Chief Minister’s visit not been scheduled, work on the road would have continued for another year.”
