Govt ready to pay pension to 'shanbogs'

The petitioners, Akhila Karnataka Maji Gramadhikari Sangha had filed a contempt petition, as the State had not given the money despite the High Court’s directions to do so.

The State government on Monday submitted that it was ready to give the pension and arrears to 208 DVAs. They have been asked to go to the Revenue Department and meet the Undersecretary of Services with identity proof  and advocate. For those DVAs  who have passed away, their kin have been asked to follow the same procedure.

It also submitted that of the 279 people who are alive and entitled to the pension, 24 have not been identified, while 34  have been paid the amount.
