Only 11 unsolved terror cases since 2000: Chidambaram

Last Updated 15 September 2011, 08:40 IST

Chidambaram, who inaugurated an all India conference of directors general and inspectors general of police here, said of the 48 cases, chargesheets were filed in 37 and these included some cases taken over by the National Investigating Agency (NIA), where it had become necessary to investigate the case further.

"Out of the 37 cases, convictions have been obtained in eight cases from courts in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chandigarh. That leaves 11 unsolved cases," he said.

With criticism mounting from opposition parties on the unsolved cases, Chidambaram said: "This is not a record to be scoffed at, although I agree that we ought to do better and I am sure that the state police forces will do better to investigate, chargesheet and obtain convictions of terrorists."
