Postpone toll collection on NH-7, State tells NHAI

The issue of collecting toll by a private agency involved in the development of the road and the subsequent protests by road-users was informally discussed at Thursday’s State Cabinet meeting.

Sources said Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda told the meeting that he would request the NHAI to direct the private agency to complete the flyover work from Hebbal before levying the toll.

In December last year, the private agency had begun construction of toll booths at Sadarahalli Gate to collect toll on vehicles moving towards Devanahalli.

The move was opposed by the public and various taxi associations.

Sources said the meeting felt that the agency cannot impose toll while the entire project had not been completed. The agency had launched the flyover construction, recently.

As per the agreement between the agency and NHAI, the latter will have to pay Rs 90 crore per annum, if stretch is made toll free, the sources added.
