UP health officers face threat

 Courtesy the multi-crore National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam, which has so far claimed lives of two CMOs and a deputy CMO and is being investigated by the CBI.

According to the health department officials, at least 13 CMOs, who had in any way been associated with the NRHM and posted at different places in the state, face credible threat to their lives. “We are really very scared...we could be the next target,” said a former CMO, preferring to be anonymous.

The government has provided additional security to all these 13 CMOs, sources said adding that the investigating agencies have also expressed the same fear.

The doctors, who have been associated with the execution of the NRHM projects in the past, apprehend threat to their lives. “These doctors may be targeted in a bid to destroy vital evidence and instill a sense of fear among the potential witnesses,” according to police sources here.

The apprehension of the doctors are without reason. Two CMOs of Lucknow, were already been killed in the recent past.
