Caught in a controversy over the recovery of 1,016 files pertaining to Rajarajeshwari Nagar zone in his Vyalikaval house, Rajarajeshwari Nagar Congress MLA Muniratna on Wednesday said he is ready to face CBI probe.

His statement came after the BBMP Council witnessed uproarious scene leading to the adjournment of the Council meeting sine die.

Later, BJP corporators staged a demonstration on the corridors of Palike. They shouted slogans and demanded arrest of the 'Corrupt and rowdy MLA Muniratna'.
Muniratna, who is also a corporator from Yeshwantpur ward, was present when the corporators were staging a demonstration. Speaking to reporters he said that the charges framed against him are baseless and are politically motivated.

“If people are questioning the motives behind the recovery of files in a private building, let the CBI probe it. I will even move the High Court and will not end my struggle until justice is served,” said Muniratna.

“I will not only demand probe into works in my constituency but also in all the 27 assembly constituencies and 198 wards of the BBMP since 2007,” he said.
Why didn’t they (BJP corporators) make a similar demand when the fake bill scam of Rs 1,539 crore surfaced in 2011, he questioned.

“Do you think that Rs 400 crore could be spent on development works in Malleswaram in three years, which is a 50-year-old layout with all amenities,” Muniratna asked.

“As you know the term of the BBMP corporators is coming to an end, they are raking up this issue for political gain,” he added. He said the Lokayukta probe is already underway, which will reveal the truth. It will also unearth the ownership of the property where the files were kept and the activities the BBMP officials and the contractors were indulged in.

When asked why the Congress corporators were silent on this issue, Muniratna said the Congress corporators were not aware of the facts, so they have maintained a silence over the issue. Interestingly, one of the Congress corporators Govindaraju has joined the BJP in demanding a CBI probe.

Meanwhile, the BBMP Council witnessed heated exchange of words between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress. The Congress leaders were seen sporting a black band on their arm to protest against the irregularities of the BJP during their five-year rule.

Raising the matter, the opposition leader B N Manjunath Reddy sought to know why the administrative report for the last five years have not been tabled yet.

“In the last five years, fake bill scam, midnight tender scam, unauthorised hoarding and encroachment of lakes and public land were reported.” Reddy demanded the CBI probe on the aforementioned scams.
