Speaking at a press conference after inspecting the colleges and high schools of the taluk, Dr Shivayogi Swami, chief whip of the Legislative Council, said a request letter has been sent to the College Education Committee (CEC) seeking appropriate action.

He said the college also lacks basic infrastructure facilities like library, toilets, class rooms and drinking water.

Shivayogi Swami also spoke over telephone regarding the matter with the joint director, who assured rectification of the situation at the earliest.

Considering the present scenario in the college, Swami said there has hardly been any intake of students for Bsc course that was introduced in the college last year. “There is a strong need to transfer these courses along with the infrastructure and the equipments required inorder to encourage the intake of the students,” he added.

The situation has worsened since the college hardly receives any feedback from the Pre-university Board.

Commenting on the overall performance of the students, Shivayogi Swami said even though the students belong to a rural background they have excelled in their studies.

He said the credit for this must go to the students and assured that teachers who have generated 100 per cent results among students will be felicitated by the government.

Marks card problem
Swami also commented on the negligence of the university with respect to issuing marks card to the students who are at the receiving end.

“The future of more than 50 students is at stake since they have not received marks card from the university, inspite of being in the final term of their course,” swamy said.

As per the letter submitted by the students, around 24 students have been marks zero in the internal exam. The students of Bcom and BBM have approached the concerned authority from pre-university department in this regard.

Dr Swami assured that the problems of the college will be solved at the earliest.

Visiting the Government First Grade College in Bagepalli on Friday, the chief whip spoke to the principal and got information about the staff and facilities provided to the college.

Students struggle for want of proper toilet, classroom and water facilities. “The college has a course in BSc Computers, but has no laboratory. Also, since the course fee is Rs 3,000, students are not getting admitted into the college,” she added.
