The accused is identifed as J Krishnamurthy (21) of KHB Colony in Krishnanandanagar.
The police have recovered jewellery worth Rs two lakh, weapons and a bike from the accused.
He had allegedly murdered Vinutha (43) when she was alone at her residence in Shankarnagar, Nandini Layout.
The police said, he killed her by slitting her throat and stabbing on her stomach several times before decamping with the valuables.
He pledged a few ornaments and sold the remaining in Chennai, Nagappattinam and Madurai, the police added.
