For vivid personalities

The latest ‘Fall Winter 2011’ collection of Flying Machine is mainly divided into three collections – ‘Spiv’, ‘Wonder Years’ and ‘Rebel Gene’. Explains Anupam Biswas, the head of design, Flying Machine, “‘Spiv’ is targeted at those who are mellow in their styling and like to cover up their looks. Inspired by the Brooklyn architecture, this collection is more about colours. Its representation is bright so we have a lot of crimson reds, energetic blues, lemon yellows. It’s bright yet subdued, colourful yet simple.” He adds, “The second collection is called ‘Wonder Years’ and refers to the vintage and nostalgic part of clothing.

It is inspired from workshop spaces and rustic metal shops.” The third collection ‘Rebel Gene’, as the name suggests, consists of clothes in darker shades like black, grey, burgundy, maroon etc and is meant only for boys. “The collection reflects the cult biker gangs and their darker side,” says Anupam.

Since the season of winter is fast approaching, Anupam notes that the treatment of the fabric is different and is accordance with the season. “The fabric is predominantly cotton with blends of wool. The outer wear like jackets is made up of teflon, nylon and polyester,” he says. “The sweaters, of course, are made of wool.”

Speaking of the jeans, Anupam says, “The jeans is made up mainly of cotton fabric and blended with polyester, to give it a unique sheen. This is especially connected to the last theme ‘Rebel Gene’.” He adds, “The three collections represent three personalities. So the youngsters can opt for whichever one that suits them and try to mix and match the different outfits from the three collections at the same time.”

Ask him about the USP of the collection and he says, “The true essence of the collection is that it is updated and trendy. It consists of smart T-shirts, jeans and other smart trends at a reasonable rate. Since the brand targets the youth, from the ages of 18 to 28, it falls into their pocket as well. To sum it up, it’s easily available and approachable.”

Does he have any style tips for the youth? “The youngsters today are very vocal in their approach and want to try everything out. So they should not miss out on any kind of trend. They can carry most clothes well so they should be willing to experiment as much as possible,” he answers.
