Two drown in Varuna

They have been identified as Shivu (7) and his maternal uncle Shivakumar (25).

Police said, Shivu, mentally unsound since birth went missing in the morning. Shivakumar, who went in search of the boy, noticed him being washed away in water.

He too drowned trying to rescue the boy. After searching for five hours, the divers retrieved the bodies near Parasayyanahundi, three to four km from the spot of drowning, at 1 pm.

After losing her husband, Shivu’s mother was tending to the family of — a son and two daughters. Shivakumar, a daily wager, was helping his sister’s family.
