The City, all set to usher in the festivities in all its grandeur, will host two mega events, with thousands of devotees expected to take part in the celebrations.

In addition to the Dasara festivities organised by the JC Nagar Dasara Utsava Samithi in Munireddy Palya in JC Nagar, the City will also witness a ten-day extravaganza put together by the Rambhapuri Peetha, Balehonnur in different parts of the City.

Steeped in history, both events are popular for staging Dasara in all pomp and glory. While the JC Nagar festivities are being organised since 1914, the Balehonnur Mutt has been carrying forward the tradition by hosting Dasara on a grand scale in all parts of the State since 1925.

The Mutt is bringing Dasara to Bangalore after 31 years, where over 6,000 artistes from across the State are said to stage performances for ten days, at the Ram Mandir Grounds in Rajajinagar.

Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda will inaugurate the event at 6.30 pm on Wednesday.

Grand procession

Varied cultural programmes will be organised during the evenings. On October 6, the day of Vijayadashami, the Balehonnur Mutt will take a procession from the Banashankari temple on Magadi Road via Rajkumar Road in Rajajinagar and Bhashyam Circle, to Ram Mandir.

The JC Nagar event, which was inaugurated by former minister Katta Subramanya Naidu the last three years, will be inaugurated by BJP leader D B Chandre Gowda, this year. Political leaders, including Mumtaz Ali Khan and Roshan Baig, too are expected to take part in the event.

78 idols on ‘rathas’

The event is especially known for its unique procession, where 78 idols, including that from different parts of the City, are placed on ‘rathas’ and procession will be led by the idols of Goddess Chamundeshwari and Krishnaraja Wadiyar of Mysore.

Over 1.5 lakh people are expected to take part on October 6. The procession will start at 6 pm and will pass through Shivajinagar, Vasanthanagar, Yeshwanthpur, Hebbal, Sultanpalya, Ganganagar and other places and will return to JC Nagar at 10 am, the following morning.

Close to 2,000 police personnel have been deployed to man the ten-day event.
