<p>Bansal, a 1974 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, will take over his new appointment from Oct 31. He will succeed Raman Srivastava, who retires that day.<br /><br />"U.K. Bansal, IPS, has been appointed as the next director general of the Border Security Force (BSF). He will take the place of Raman Srivastava, who retires on Oct 31," a government release said. <br /><br />Bansal joined the home ministry as special secretary (internal security) in August 2009 and was later promoted as secretary (internal security).<br /><br />During his 37 years in the IPS, Bansal has held several important responsibilities in Uttar Pradesh Police, Border Security Force and the cabinet secretariat.</p>
