Allocate gas to State: CM to PM

Last Updated 13 August 2009, 16:25 IST

In a letter to the PM, the CM said that State has urgent need for gas, for setting up of about 9,000 MW of power plants, and for city gas distribution. The requirement is about 40-45 million metric standard cubic metres of gas per day (mmscmd).

The State has been in dialogue with GAIL and Reliance; the government has signed an MoU with GAIL recently, to facilitate the laying of the Dabhol- Bangalore and Kochi-Bangalore gas pipelines. However, the source of gas and the pricing is yet to be firmed up by GAIL. The East-West Pipeline (EMPL) constructed by Reliance is passing through Karnataka. Reliance has been authorised by Karnataka to implement gas distribution projects in some districts.
