Crackers, liquor banned during Dasara

The decision was taken on Friday during the preparatory meet held for Dasara in presence of Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah, District in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar, minister for Power Shobha Karandalaje, MLA Appachu Ranjan, Zilla Panchayat President Ravi Kushalappa and others at Fort hall.

Dasara Samiti Rabin Devaiah said that Rs 50 lakh provided by the Government has reached them and all steps have been taken to put up a splendid Dasara festival.

Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah said that District in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar, Home Minister R Ashok, Minister for Kannada and Culture Govind Karajola and others will take part in Madikeri Dasara.Palemar said that all the government buildings must be embellished during the Dasara celebrations.Ranjan said that crackers and liquor have been banned during Dasara and the general public should not violate this rule.

Shobha Karandalaje said that in future Madikeri Dasara will be treated on par with Mysore Dasara in terms of publicity and prominence.

Decisions

The meet decided to install as many as eight CCTVs in the city for security purposes. A flower exhibition, electrification and musical fountain will be put up at Rajaseat. Better toilet facilities will be provided at Abbi falls. The KRDCL has been asked to develop the road from Sudarshan circle to J T Circle. More than 40 additional buses will be arranged in the city for Dasara and Tourism department has been asked to put up adequate number of information centres for the convenience of the tourists.

Suspension

Noticing the absence of Department of Kannada and Culture Assistant Director during the meeting, Bopaiah immediately urged District in-charge Minister to suspend the officer. “This department has a vital role to play during the Dasara celebration and the Assistant Director of this department remains absent for the preparatory meet. This is not acceptable,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner Dr N V Prasad said that the particular officer has been behaving in this manner for quite sometime now.

He has also been served show cause notice.
