'Control population to solve poverty'

Speaking after inaugurating World Population Day programme organised by the Zilla Panchayat, Health and Family Welfare Department and the Government PU College here on Friday, he said the solutions for the problems of food, shelter, employment and poverty lie in population control.

The population of the pre-independent India was just 36 crore. But it has crossed 115 crore by July 2009. Population control is must for the overall development of a country, he propagated.

People in the metropolitan cities find it difficult to lead their life peacefully due to population expolsion.

Youth and students need to learn more about the impact of excessive population, he observed.

Zilla Panchayat Education and Health Standing Committee Chairman Manu Muttappa said the country is experiencing problems like poverty, unemployment, illiteracy and hence everybody need to think about the issue seriously.

Programme Implementation Officer of the District Health and Family Welfare Department Dr Siddalingaiah delivered an introductory speech. District TB Control Officer Nanaiah, Health Education Officer Kambli, the College Principal M N Lingaiah were present.
