Farmers oppose survey work on Upper Bhadra project

 Demanding compensation on par with the new rehabilitation package of the State government for those who lose land for the Upper Bhadra project. The protestors did not allow the officials and the contractors to carry out survey work.

The farmers and villagers who had gathered in a large number shouted slogans against the government. The farmers said the State government had promised to hold talks with the farmers before taking up any work related to Upper Bhadra project. However, officials tried to hold the survey work without bringing the matter to the notice of the farmers. Assistant Commissioner K M Gayathri who visited the spot said the problems of the farmers have been brought to the notice.

The officials will carry out survey in the government land alone. However, the protesting farmers urged the officials to discuss  the compensation to be paid to the farmers before carrying out the survey work. When the farmers and officials fail to arrive at consensus terms with the officials, the AC said that a meeting with the elected representatives and the farmers will be held within two days. The farmers were asked to get a list of demands to the meeting. Former MLA Neelakantappa, DCC Bank Director A R Rajashekarappa, Hunasaghatta Gram Panchayat President Thippeshappa, farmer leaders B P Rajashekar, H M Suresh and others were present.
