The North-East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation had withdrawn bus services for most part of the day and a few buses that plied were stopped on the outskirts of the city, causing inconvenience to the passengers.

But, the services were restored by late evening, when even the shops and petrol bunks that had downed the shutters since morning, resumed their business.
Superintendent of Police Pravin Pawar said security was stepped up as a precautionary measure.

The police had even obtained a security bond for Rs 25 lakh from the organisers, Jai Karnataka Rakshana Vedike towards the damages, if any.

Vedike president Arunkumar Patil said the bundh was called to pressure the government to recruit staff for nearly 80 per cent of the posts vacant in the Palike.

He said the administration work has suffered due to shortage of staff.
