Over 25 vendors who were illegally trading on the roadside from Private Bus Stand-Chowki Circle-State Bank of India were evicted on the first day of the drive.

Speaking to the media persons following the drive, City Municipal Commission President H M Nanda Kumar said that the traders who were issued licence from the CMC for trading were incurring loss due to the illegal traders on the footpath. “Even the pedestrians had to face lot of problems as the vendors had encroached the footpath practically making it difficult to walk. Hence the pedestrians were forced to walk on the street, which used to add to the confusion on the narrow streets,” he said.

He informed that it was inevitable to evict them as they had not vacated the place even after CMC warning them and giving them adequate time to leave.“In some of the instances, the shop owners used to sell the products outside the shops causing inconvenience to the public. However, the shop owners responded to the warning and shifted their materials inside the shop,” said the CMC President.

Citing the reason behind him supervising the eviction drive, he said that as some of the traders protested and stopped the CMC staff during eviction he himself had to supervise the drive.

Commissioner Shashi Kumar warned illegal traders of stern action if they try to come back to the place to run their business.
