Man kills self by jumping before Metro

The incident occurred at 5.19 pm at the Seelampur metro station when the 55-year-old unidentified man jumped on to the track when a train from Shastri Park was entering the platform, a metro spokesperson said.

The driver immediately applied the emergency brakes when he saw the man jumping in front of the train but he was run over before the train could come to a halt.The man, whose identity was yet to ascertained, died on the spot. Sources said the deceased was a drug addict.

Following the incident, train services on the Dilshad Garden — Rithala Metro route were disrupted for 20 minutes.

Normal services between Seelampur and Shastri Park on line one resumed at 5.39 pm. Services at the other two links remained unaffected by the incident. The body of the deceased has been handed over to the police who are investigating the incident.
