The panel constituted by the government to give suggestions on the implementation of the Lokayukta report on illegal mining has recommended the setting up of a special investigation team (SIT) to monitor and control illegalities in the mining sector; strengthening of departments, including mines and geology, forest, transport and police; computerisation of purchase and sale of ore and digitisation of all the transactions to bring about transparency; issue of licences or mining permits through a single window agency; and action to be taken against 617 officials found guilty.
The four-member committee, headed by additional chief secretary K Jairaj, submitted the 316-page report to Chief Secretary S V Ranganath on Monday for further perusal.
