'Rs 600 cr released for development of SC/ST'

Speaking to the presspersons at Dharmasthala on Monday, he said government has given a special grant of Rs 100 for the development of SC/ST colonies in the State. An integrated plan is being prepared for the overall development of the backward community.

The Minister said the government has sanctioned Rs 400 crore for the development of Morarji Desai Residential Schools. It has been decided to open 180 new schools in the State. The buildings of Morarji Desai Residential Schools in 172 places are under construction. The service of the teachers working in Morarji Desai Residential Schools will be continued. As many as 9,000 posts are lying vacant in the Social Welfare department. As many as 3000 posts will be filled soon. The selection is under progress, Minister added.

Committees have been constituted to make recommendations to the government after conducting a study on the tribals dwelling in forest areas. The committees should submit report to the Tahsildar and DC through Grama sabhe. However, the committees in Belthangady is not functioning properly. A meeting of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikmagalur Deputy Commissioner’s will be convened to discuss the matter, he added.
Government had sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the development of backward community through SKDRDP last year. Even this year, Rs 10 crore will be released. “We will make a recommendation to the Centre to include Koraga community to ST category after studying the anthropology,” he added.

BJP will win by-election in five constituencies, he predicted.

He also paid visit to Kukke Subrahmanya temple and offered pooja. Temple Managing Trustee T Venkatramana Bhat drew the attention of the Minister on the need for post metric girls hostel. For which Minister responded positively.
