The passers by and those taking the evening stroll at the new Yamuna bridge in Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad town, about 225 km from here, were surprised, when they saw a young woman running here and there and shouting for help on Friday last. She kept shouting that her boyfriend had fallen into the river and that he needed immediate help but none dared to jump into the river to save the youth. Although the police reached the spot a little later after being informed, they could not do anything as it was dark. A massive search operation was launched on Saturday and divers were pressed into service but the body of the youth could not be traced.

According to the police, the youth identified as Akash Prajapati of Jharkhand, who worked with a cell phone company, had arrived at the bridge with his lover on Friday evening. The couple carried a camera and Akash wanted some good snaps of his beloved. Akash had taken several pictures but was still looking for something different. He climbed on to the railings looking for a different angle despite being told not to do so by the woman, police said adding that he slipped while taking the snap and fell straight into the deep river.
Although the police alerted the boatmen at different ghats along the Yamuna river, the youth could not be traced.
