A proud moment

The graduation day of Dayananda Sagar Institutions was held in the city recently.
The event got off to a wonderful start with R Ramanan, Mission Director - ATAL Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, Government of India, urging the students to be receptive to change because it is constant.

Over 3,000 professionals from various disciplines in Dayananda Sagar Institutions participated in the event and received certificates on the day. In his address, Ramanan called upon the students to not only accept change but also see how they can contribute to society. He added, “It is not the strongest or the fittest but those who adapt most to change will survive.” He said that the power of aspirations is incredible and urged students to dream big.

Jayesh Chakravarthi, senior vice president and country head IT at Fidelity Investments, the guest of honour at the event, said that the world is full of opportunities and one needs to learn to seize them. Dr D Premachandra Sagar, vice chairman, Dayananda Sagar Institutions and pro-chancellor of Dayananda Sagar University presided over the function. Congratulating the class of 2017 on successfully completing a demanding programme, he said they now have a new role in academia and industry. He urged them to use their learning for the upliftment of the downtrodden in society.

Describing the students as ‘stewards of this nation’ he said that the only hurdle for the youth is the mental block of thinking that higher goals are impossible to achieve. He highlighted the power of artificial intelligence which enables machines to think like humans.

He mentioned the rapid strides technology is making in moving from domain specific intelligence to general intelligence and ultimately towards artificial super intelligence. Dr Ramakrishna, vice principal of Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, led the oath-taking ceremony. Medals were presented to all University rank holders. R Janardhan, senior executive vice president, Dayananda Sagar Institutions and pro-vice chancellor Dayananda Sagar University delivered the vote of thanks.
