Nine held for cheating doctors

Ramala, Premlal, Babu, Kumar Solanki, Harilal, Shankarlal, Srinivas, Mani Bhai, and Gauri Bhai, all from Gujarat, are the arrested.

According to the police, the suspects met Dr Chaitra, who runs a clinic in JP Nagar 7th Phase recently, one by one. They claimed that they were suffering from some ailments. All of them managed to gain a goodwill with the doctor over a period of time.

A few days ago, they met Dr Chaitra again and claimed that some of their relatives recovered golden ornaments belonging to the British era when they were excavating at Golkonda Fort in Hyderabad.

They showed an ornament to her and offered to sell it to her as they were in a financial mess. They offered to sell all the ornaments if she paid them Rs 10 lakh.

Trusting their words, Dr Chaitra gave them the money and collected 2.5 kg fake ornaments. Later, she realised that she was taken for a ride, added the police. The suspects cheated two other doctors also at Madivala a few months ago, said the police.
Motorist killed

A 32-year-old two-wheeler rider was killed on the spot in Peenya traffic police limits on Sunday. The accident occurred when the victim, Chandrashekhar collided with another two-wheeler on Tank Bund Road. He sustained severe head injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The bicycle rider managed to escape unhurt, added the police.

Fire at godown

Sewing machines and other goods worth over Rs 81 lakh were destroyed in a fire at a godown in Malleshapalya near Baippanahalli on Sunday night. According the police, fire broke out at the Gurukrupa Design, the embroidery factory that also housed the sewing machine godown. The security men immediately alerted the fire brigade personnel, who rushed to the spot and put out the fire. The cause of the mishap is stated to be electric short circuit.
